Statement
How does belief shape people’s experience in the world? What causes people
to feel disconnected and separate from the world and others?
My current work is greatly influenced by these questions. I am intrigued by how
we all interact in the world, what we believe and how that belief directs our
behavior and as a result, our experience.
I believe the world is filled with vibrance and endless potential, but I am not
always able to live in a way that reflects this belief. So, the question then
becomes, how do my own self-imposed limitations affect my belief and my experience
and how do others limitations affect theirs? What is at the core of these limitations?
What would they look like if they were tangible? This is what I am exploring with
my work.
But why is glass my chosen medium? It’s an easy answer. I think about the
blasts of color that I am afforded, the depth that I am able to capture, the weight
of something so solid to work with. What better way to portray infinite possibilities
or the density of despair? For me the choice is clear.
